Silverlight is the Future
Microsoft just released its Adobe Flash competitor, Silverlight, and I’ve been reading about its features and getting giddy. I usually don’t get this enamored with new technology, but I can see this platform causing a paradigm shift in the way we deliver content (multimedia, software, etc).
What is Silverlight? Well its a browser plug-in, like Flash, which allows content delivery. It also runs other programs created in technologies such as Ajax, Ruby, and .NET to run pretty fast on a browser. I have no idea what these technologies are, but I can see this framework changing business.
Consulting companies can now create their solutions in something like .NET, which is supposed to be cool in its own right, store it on their own servers, and allow clients to access it using a Silverlight plug-in via a browser. No more complicated protocols to set up, no more worrying about which OS the client is using, shit will just work. Very cool, at least in theory.
As someone who wants to retire into consulting, I can see this being the foundation of my business solution. Now if only creating a solution was this easy…
